Tholos tomb 2 at Psari

The second large Mycenaean Tholos Tomb on the hill called “Metsiki” near the village Psari is situated about 100 meters northeast of the Tholos Tomb 1. Excavation of this tomb was carried out between 2018 and 2020, and it yielded human bones and various grave goods that date back mostly to the 15th century BC. The grave offerings include decorated pots, stone tools, seal stones, a golden seal depicting a bull and decorated with cloisonné technique, gold ornaments that adorned the garments of the deceased, pins, bronze sword and dagger, arrowheads made of bronze and flint, and boar’s tusks from a helmet. Based on the skeletal remains and other finds, it can be concluded that this tomb was used for the burial of a local and prominent ruler warrior and his family. During that time, the wealth and supremacy of powerful men were expressed in monumental tholos tombs, rich in elaborate grave goods.
