Tholos tomb 1 at Fities, Koukounara

At the site of Fities, about 800 m. southeast of the modern settlement of Koukounara, two Mycenaean tholos tombs were investigated by Spyridon Marinatos and Georgios Korres. One of them, in the west, has a burial chamber with a diameter of 6 m. and two large lintels. Although the tomb was found to have been looted, a pit covered with slabs was found on the floor of the vault, in which the burial of a child was rescued. It was accompanied by two ceramic vases, long gold bands with a shaped flower that probably crowned the child’s head, and two necklaces with amber and faience beads. The tomb was used in the 15th-14th century BC.
