Elliniko, Mouriatada
On the Elliniko hill, Mouriatada, about 7 km east of Kyparissia, the remains of a Mycenaean settlement have come to light. Traces of fortifications have been found, including parts of walls, retaining walls, as well as towers or bastions. At the top of the hill stood a megaroid building, probably associated with the local ruler. Other smaller buildings were built on the edges of the hill. One of them, divided into three parts, may have had a cult character. Apart from the residential remains, a small tholos tomb is visible, comprising a dromos (passageway), a stomion (entranceway) and a vaulted burial chamber. It was found to have been looted and contained many jumbled animal bones. Inside the burial chamber a small, built cist pit with a few child bones was found. The archaeological remains on the Elliniko hill probably date to the 13th and 12th centuries BC and the site could possibly be associated with the homeric Amphigeneia.
