Tholos tomb 2 at Akona, Koukounara

At the site of Akona, about 800 meters northeast of the modern village of Koukounara, two Mycenaean tholos tombs have been identified. The southernmost tomb, with a diameter of 5.40 meters, was found looted. It contained various artifacts such as pottery, stone arrowheads, steatite spindle whorls, a part of a deer horn, glass beads, a seal stone with a possible representation of a bull, and bronze weapons, such as a dagger with gold-plated nails on the handle and two knives that had been deliberately disused so that they could not be reused. The tomb was used from the 15th to the 13th century BC .
